About us

Built for the moment before you hand over the money

CheapestCarFax exists for one job: letting a used-car shopper see a vehicle's full history for $5.99, in the time it takes the seller to find the keys.

How it works

Enter the VIN17 characters from the dashboard, door jamb or the listing. A US licence plate and state works too.
Pay $5.99Card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. No account required for a single report, and you are never charged if a report can't be produced for that VIN.
Read it in secondsAccidents and damage, title brands (salvage, rebuilt, flood, lemon), odometer readings over time, open recalls, service records and ownership events — on screen, as a PDF, and in your inbox.

Why it costs $5.99 and not $44.99

Vehicle-history data is sold in volume to the trade at a fraction of the single-report retail price. We buy it that way and pass the difference on. The information in the report is the same category of record a dealer sees; what you are not paying for is a brand name on the cover.

Who we are

CheapestCarFax is an independent service run by a small team, and it is a sister site to AutoVINReveal, which serves dealers and high-volume buyers. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by CARFAX, Inc. or Equifax. CARFAX® is a registered trademark of CARFAX, Inc.; we use the name only to compare prices and coverage. We do not sell cars, and a report never contains a current owner's name or address.

Free tools

Before you spend anything, the free tools read what the VIN itself encodes: the VIN decoder and decoder by make (year, model, trim, engine, assembly plant), the window-sticker lookup, an auto-loan calculator, a five-year cost-of-ownership calculator and a browser extension that flags VINs on the listing pages you already browse.

Guarantee

Not satisfied with a report? Email us within 30 days with the VIN and your checkout email and we refund it in full. The full policy is in the Terms of Service.

About the guides

Our buying guides are written by the team from public sources — NHTSA recall and VIN data, state title rules, insurer and manufacturer notices — and from what we see across the reports we deliver. Each one shows its publication date, and corrections are welcome by email.
