Every Porsche VIN begins WP0 if it is a sports car or WP1 if it is a Cayenne or Macan. Beyond that prefix the decode does its real work, because within one model line the difference between variants is enormous in money terms.
A 911 can be a base Carrera or a Turbo S, and the badge on the back is not evidence — it is a part that can be bought and fitted. The VIN, assigned at build, is not so easily rearranged, which is why decoding is standard practice before a Porsche purchase.
